Nobody's Trying to Hurt Anyone

I spent my Sunday afternoon in the presence of some of the best ballroom dancers I have ever seen. What an inspiration - what a party!

The occasion was a fundraiser for a children's charity. For those who simply like to watch great dancing, it was a bonanza. For any who enjoy venturing onto the dance floor themselves, it was hour after hour of an almost endless variety of dancing styles.

And for those who may have never personally tried ballroom, every hour brought a different instructor, ready and superbly able to teach the fundamentals of the Fox Trot, Cha Cha, and Hustle (yes, disco divas, it's baack!!)

It was great exercise for those who participated, a fabulous floor show for those who watched, and a wonderful way to raise a bunch of money for a good cause.

If you are planning a fundraiser, now would be a very good time to consider something similar. Not since John Travolta infected us with "Saturday Night Fever" in the 70s has dancing (and dance instruction) been so popular. Entire families of our acquaintance are participating. And the beauty of it is that each and every person who walks in the door has the opportunity to participate (or not) at their own level. Today's event had seniors, boomers, Gen-Xers, and a few from Gen Y (which in "earth language" means that we had everything from 70-somethings to 20-somethings.) We had competitive ballroom dancers (like the pros on Dancing With The Stars) and rank amateurs. But ALL had fun.

How long this fascination with the terpsichorean arts will last is unknown and un-knowable. But - for now - I recommend that anybody with a good cause and a need for funds look into planning an event which combines dance exhibition and dance instruction with loads of good dance music.

And when you do, be sure I find out about it. I'll put my dancing shoes on!

Talk, Pt. 3

The Third Part of a Three Part Single Set. "Talk" is One of the Stand Out Tracks on Coldplay's Multi-platinum Third Album, "x&y", Q Magazine's #1 Album of the Year 2005. The Title Track's Melody is Built from Portion of Kraftwerk's "Computer Love". All Three Tracks on this Edition were Recorded at the Band's 2005 Appearance at the Gelredome in Arnhem, Nederlands, Including the Title Track and "Til Kingdom Come" and "Fix You".
Customer Review: Third disc of three-disc set includes all live tracks from X&Y
Talk, Pt. 3, an import from Holland on the Parlophone label, includes the third of three CD singles featuring the title song. Talk, Pt. 1 includes the nice tri-fold digipak case with spaces left for the separately available parts 2 and 3. The three singles are supposedly only available for a limited time. The breakdown of the three discs is as follows: Part 1: (Amazon AISN B000CNGG9Y) 1. Talk (Radio Edit) 2. Swallowed in the Sea (Live in Holland) 3. God Put A Smile Upon You Face (Live in Holland) Part 2: (Amazon AISN B000CNGGA8) 1. Talk (Album Version) 2. Square One (Live in Holland) 3. Clocks (Live in Holland) Part 3 (this disc): (Amazon AISN B000CNGGAI) 1. Talk (Live in Holland) 2. Til Kingdom Come (Live in Holland) 3. Fix You (Live in Holland) Part 1 only warrants a three-star rating from me because it includes the Radio Edit of Talk. But the live tracks are good. Part 2 goes up to four stars because it includes the album version of Talk, and an excellent live rendition of Square One from X&Y. Part 3 also warrants four stars for the live tracks from X&Y, great performances all. Note that these discs have WMA copy protection. If you would like to extract tracks for your MP3 player or iPod, you will need to use a Mac to do so. By the way, parts 2 and 3 come in shrinkwrapped sleeves. This is one more reason to get part 1 and the nice tri-fold digipak.

God Puts Smile Up Your Face Ep

Did you know?

France is the birthplace of Pierre de Coubertin, who is the father of the Olympic Movement. This Frenchman was born on January 1, 1863 in Paris. Pierre once said, "The Olympic Movement gives the world an ideal which reckons with the reality of life, and includes a possibility to guide this reality toward the great Olympic idea".

The Summer Olympic Games were held in Paris in 1900. For the first time, sportswomen were allowed to compete in the Olympics ( six tennis players ). France won first place in the Games with 26 gold, 41 silver and 34 bronze medals.

Marie-Jos Prec was one of France's greatest sportswomen. She was born in Guadeloupe ( Caribbean island ) and moved to France with her mother when she was sixteen. Marie-Jose became the second female athlete in the history of the Olympic Games to sweep the 200m and 400m ( Atlanta'96 ).

Like Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana and Reunion, New Caledonia -French territory in Oceania- is not member of the International Olympic Committee ( IOC ). Why? France does not allow its territories to compete in the Olympics. For this reason, New Caledonia's athletes can not compete in the Olympic Games. Unlike Guam ( American territory ), Aruba ( Dutch territory ) and Bermuda ( British territory ), it did not compete in the 2004 Olympics. Ironically, New Caledonia has several famous sportspeople in the South Pacific. Aquatics: Olivier Saminadin, Thomas Dahlia, Thomas Chacun, Reine-Victora Weber, Lara Grangeon, Diana Bui-Duyet, Adeline Williams and Gilles Durnesnil. Archery: Laurent Clerte, Emmanuel Guilhard, Henry Shiu, Isabelle Soeno and Sylvena Plazenet. Athletics: Vaikula Elise Takosi, Candice Soulisse, Erwin Casser, Bertrand Vili, Eric Frederic, Bina Ramesh, Eric Revillard, Phoebe Wejieme and Daniel Kilamo. Badminton: Nicolas Martoredjo, Florent Mathey, Marc-Antonie Desaynoz, Johanna Kou and Cecile Sarengat. Boxing: Christophe Lestage, Ataale Gyan and Hannequin Benoit. Judo: Sandrine Perel, Kyo Lussaud, Melissa Kaddour, Stephane Courtine, Jonathan Berger, Cyril Chevalier, Paul Dulac, Abedis Trindade de Abreu, Vaea Chadfeau and Diane Hillaireau. Sailing: Chrisptophe Renaud, Alban Rossollin, Feri Malhieu, Michael Borde, Cawle Dabin and Paiscillia Poaniewa. Shooting: Theodore Tein Weiawe, Fabrice Azarro and Phillipe Sinoni. Table tennis: Frederic Quach, Laurent Sens, Maxime Bataihard, Ornella Bouteille and Alexandra Heraclide. Taekwondo: Annie Odino, Kevin Belhameche, John Trouilet and Arnord Sariman. Tennis: Julien Couly, Elodie Rogge and Nickolas Ngodrela. Triathlon: Oliver Bargibant, Stephane Lacroix and Benedicte Meunier. At the last South Pacific Games held in Apia ( Samoa / formerly Western Samoa ) in November 2007, it finished 1st among 22 countries and territories. Certainly, New Caledonia has won more international gold medals per capita than any other country of the South Pacific.

Paris hosted the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in 1986. Final standings: 1.United States, 2.USSR ( currently Russia ), 3.Bulgaria, 4.Brazil, 5.Cuba, 6.France, 7.Argentina, 8.Czechoslovakia (currently Czech Republic/Slovak Republic), 9.Poland, 10.Japan, 11.China, 12.Italy, 13.Greece, 14.Venezuela, 15.Egypt, 16.Taiwan.

Jean Schopter became the first Frenchman to win the Roland Garros in 1892.

France send 243 athletes to the 1984 Los Angeles Games. It participated in 19 sports: archery ( 2 ), athletics (45), basketball ( 12 ), boxing ( 4 ), kayak ( 14 ), cycling ( 16 ), equestrian ( 11), fencing ( 20 ), football ( 17 ), gymnastics ( 9 ), wrestling ( 16 ), modern pentathlon ( 3 ), rowing ( 22 ), shooting ( 15 ), swimming ( 19 ), tennis ( 4 ), weightlifting ( 2 ), wrestling ( 8 ), sailing ( 12 ).

This European country won the gold medal in soccer at the 1984 Olympic Games in the United States.

France is the birthplace of fencing. Fencing was made part of the official program for the Olympics at the 1896 Athens Games.

Paris has hosted the Summer Olympics in 1924. There were 3,092 athletes from 44 countries who competed in 19 sports: athletics, aquatics, boxing, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, gymnastics, modern pentathlon, polo, rowing, rugby, sailing, shooting, soccer, tennis, water polo, weightlifting, wrestling. France came third with 13 golds, 15 silvers and 10 bronzes.

Eunice Barber is one of the most famous athletes in France. She was born on November 17, 1974 in Freetown, Sierra Leone ( Western Africa ), the world's poorest country. Eunice says, "I was fortunate to grow up in Sierra Leone, an English-speaking African country where sport is very present". For political and economic reasons, she moved to France when she was 18 years old. In the 1990s, Sierra Leone had one of Africa's bloodiest civil wars. More than 70,000 Africans had been killed and 150,000 had left the country. Under the banner of Sierra Leone, Eunice finished fifth in the heptathlon competition at the 1996 Olympic Games in the United States. For many sportswriters and experts, her Olympic performance was amazing. Three years later, she become a French citizen.

Top performances:

1999: European Cup-1st heptathlon

1999: World Cup-1st heptathlon

2003: IAAF World Championships- 1st long jump, 2nd heptathlon

2003: European Cup-1st long jump

2003: IAAF World Athletics Final-1st long jump

2005: IAAF World Championships-2nd heptathlon, 3rd long jump

2005: IAAF World Athletics Final-4th long jump

2006: European Cup-2nd long jump

Eunice's favourites:

Movie stars: Julia Roberts, Sharon Stone, Demi Moore

Music: From French to pop music

Hobbies: Theater, cinematography, music, reading

Fashion designers: Issey Miyake and Jean Paul Gautier

Music artists: Celine Dion, Withney Houston, Wyclef Jean.

Alejandro Guevara Onofre: He is a freelance writer. Alejandro is of Italian, African and Peruvian ancestry. He has published more than seventy-five research paper in English, and more than twenty in Spanish, concerning the world issues, olympic sports, countries, and tourism. His next essay is called "The Dictator and Alicia Alonso". He is an expert on foreign affairs. Alejandro is the first author who has published a world-book encyclopedia in Latin America.

He admires Frida Kahlo (Mexican painter), Jos Gamarra (former president of the Bolivian Olympic Committee ,1970- 1982), Hillary Clinton (ex-First Lady of the USA), and Jimmy Carter (former President of the USA). Alejandro said: "The person who I admire the most is Jos Gamarra . He devoted his professional and personal life to sport. Jos played an important role in the promotion of Olympism in Bolivia -it is one of the Third World`s poorest countries- and Latin America. His biography is interesting". The sportspeople he most admire is Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman. "This African-American sportswoman is my idol... "

Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine - Homecoming Concert

Customer Review: Homecoming Concert One More Time...
This is the concert where I fell in love with Gloria and the MSM. The music is classic and the performance brings me back to my happy teen years. I have played the video at least once/week for the last 15 years and it never fails to make me feel good. Gloria's outfits are very sexy and alot of fun to look at. From the thigh boots and tight body outfit it to the chaps wearing biker chick look she oozes Sex Appeal. Hoping some day it'll be on DVD and re-released as a Classic. Joanne
Customer Review: Excellente (y Caliente?)
This is a classic concert. And I agree that it should be released on DVD. "Words Get in the Way" performed accousticly with John and Jorge on guitars, "FANTASTIC". Or how about Gloria looking "Caliente" wearing jeans covered by some leather cowboy stuff. Next year I went to the concert in Rotterdam, but she didn't wear the outfit. Hahahha. Should have asked my money back. No, seriously. This tape is EXCELLENTE (Y CALIENTE?).

Exposing the Dark

Customer Review: Not available? Unbelievable. Terrific alt rock Christian music
EXPOSING THE DARK by Luminous is one of my fave albums in the last year. I acquired it in 2006, though I gather it came out the year before. I had never seen press for this group. No, I came across them through the tribute album for Wes King (a good tribute record whose profits go to a worthy cause, and I think you might wanna check it out). No here, is a record that gave me thrills, with a terrific lead vocalist. The band backs her up creditably (only occasionally almost drowning her out). Here and there, a moody piano plays. Here and there an echo of Coldplay. Here and there a touch of U2 guitar work. There is a gorgeous atmosphere here, young and fresh and earnest. The lyrics are thoughtful and emotional and spiritual. How did this album just fall below the radar and disappear? I mean, there are so many boring acts on Christian radio that I simply tune out, but a cool act like LUMINOUS just, what?, vanishes? It's perplexing. Ever since OUT OF THE GREY sort of faded away (and man, I loved that duo), I haven't come across a combination of artsy hipness and accessibility and cool lyrics like with LUMINOUS. (Okay, Barlow Girl is great fun, and Nichole Nordeman and Sarah Groves give us personal girl spiritual power. But BENJAMIN GATE went kaput, and CHASING FURIES went bye-bye, and this band finally fills the cool shoes of B.G. and C.F. for me, and I like them immensely.) Someone needs to get this band some airplay on CCM stations. They're just too good to disappear. If you like CCM with a more modern flair (ie not old-timey or dull and predictable the way praise music can be since it's intended for anyone to be able to sing), find this cd available, snap it up. Playlist: WHO AM I?--starts out with this interesting bit of clanky percussion then ramps up, then calms to allow Natalie to sing in a semi-rappy singing style. And the chorus rings out with passion: "Who am I to make up the rules, to judge anyone, when I'm the one to be judged?" 4.5/5 FALLING FOR YOU--U2 homage in the opening, insistent bass drum, tinkly piano accents, and a low-key but not unemotional vocalizing. "You've changed my thinking, how I see myself...I'm starting over, I'm moving forward...I'm falling for you...I feel I'd do anything, even go anywhere with you by my side, my dreams are awakened, chances must be taken...Chances must be taken..." 4.5/5 BURN--My favorite song on the album. I'll wail this one around the house on REPEAT: Opens with some nice cymbal moody tinkling and atmospheric guitar work rising, falling. Then a bouncy tune with some interesting echo and buzzing. A cool driving/strolling sound...then Natalie: "Burning with love is the fire I feel for you, undying passion through and through. Melting, mending, changing me to gold: I willingly submit instead of being told. Stir this fire in my soul. Stir up the coals of indecision. Break through the icy chains that have held me down. And I'll burn for you... I wanna burn for You. I wanna burn so hot that my enemies will turn..." 5/5 UNAWARE: Not one of my faves. Bouncy, a touch of electronica, another nice strolling sound, but the vocals are a bit tired feeling. Only the chorus really is fun to me: "They look, they stare, totally unaware of who I really am..." But it gets much better toward the finale, the vocals get some life. 3/5 CHOOSE: Spare opening and vocals with a touch of ennui: "Echoes of my past they haunt me to say, it's just another day. Nothing's new. You never change...I have a choice. I choose You now." Unfortunately, in spots, we lose her voice... 4/5 THINK: This feels very girl-power-pop. Energetic drumming, super bouncy rhythm. It makes me want to put on a mini-skirt and do a New Wave jump. Good energy, good vibe, a bit more of the "lost voice" issue, but youth groups could love this. "One life to live...once chance to give...Generations come and go..." 3/5 EMOTIONS: Sassy stop-and-go, hip-hop manipulations with a slower tempo. "You're everything to me. The only one that stays the same through it all. In this battle, you call my name. Let me know you're love's the same." 4/5 ON AN ON: Clanky percussion opener moves into an atmospheric geography, some techno touches, very light, but add a nice accent. The vocals are clearer, and the guitar comes in nice and unhurried, strum, strum. Layered vocals come in and it grows into a pleasant, moody piece. "Your love goes on and on when I see the darkness all around, your love goes on and on and on despite my circumstances." The guitar does some nice bits later on, too. Never getting in the way. They did a great job of setting a mood that feels like a long, long horizon..on and one and on. 5/5 AT THE WELL:Okay, I kept expecting Elton John to start singing. Piano playing a repetitive set of chords, then a simple: "How can this be, that you're in love with me?" Just a sort of interlude. About a minute long. 3/5 EPILOGUE: Nice moody piano opening, sort of like a suspenseful set of notes. "Can't take what I've done back, the weight is heavy but I"ve got to move on and repent, not resent, I'll repent, not resent..." She does a great job of singing the chorus, and that continual set of piano notes carries on this sort of driving sense of a need. That suits the lyrics. This is another of my faves, though the arrangement is sort of minimal, it does wind up towards the end--guitars rushing in, drums waking up--and is just a cool song, period, with a great message. 5/5 SPEECHLESS: INSTRUMENTAL: piano with some nice strings accompanying. Feels like a piece of a nice film soundtrack. SEARCH ME: A fabulous praise song. Piano is clean, nice and vocals are earnest: "I bow low in Your presence, in the holiness of Your throne room. You gently lift my chin as I gaze into Your eyes." "Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my thoughts, so I'm set apart. Shine your light on me, and set me free. Let nothing hold me back from knowing You." "I submit my life to you. My dreams, my questions, my heart to you. You gently grab my hand, and you smile at me, you're in control." The piano is gorgeous. And toward the latter half, a bit of guitar strumming comes into play, and there is a crescendo with strings, just before it gets mellow again. But the piano and voice rule the day. Perfect for any worship gathering. Beautiful, full of longing. 5/5 LUMINOUS has a MySpace page that offers some of their songs for your enjoyment. They also have an webpage. I really hope they put out another album and become better known among CCM enthusiasts. Big thumbs up. Mir of Mirathon blog

Customer Review: good but some disappointment
dance steps are fine and not too difficult but steps are done to a percussion beat rather than to tunes and real latin music. I really prefer music and so this doesn't feel like dancing, just exercising, and therefore isn't as much fun.
Customer Review: Not what I expected !!
I am a fan of salsa music and i thought that this dvd would be fun to try and put in a part of my work outs. The instructor was just wayyyy too much. too loud , too hyper. she came off very corny at times. lol. the video is just dumb. i dont know ,i just found her annoying. The music was good and all but i just cant take her. I dont do this video often. Once in a blue. It really wasnt as good as thought it was gonna be. i have other crunch video but come on now. they need better instructors.

There are so many teen stars, or actors who play teens at least, that the number of hairstyles is in great abundance. No matter if you have red hair, an oval shaped face, or any other feature, there are plenty of teen hairstyles to copy from this source. Networks like Fox and the WB which thrive on teens to watch their shows produce hot hairstyle frequently in shows like The OC, One Tree Hill, and the old favorite Dawson's Creek. Nickelodeon and Disney always produce a number of new teen celebrities each year all providing different hairstyles. Movies like the recent 'Date Movie' or 'Final Destination 3' all have teen playing actors with different hairstyle copying possibilities. These teen celebrities also sport some of the best hairstyles in their appearances at award shows and for some of the best formal teen hairstyles, there is no better choice. Some key names with great hairstyles to watch for include Hilary DUff, Lindsay Lohan, and Rachel Jade Bilson, just to name a few.

The other hot source for teen hairstyles is in the music industry. Probably one of the hotter areas that is really diverse when it comes to different hairstyles. Because music has different genres each catering to a different crowd usually with different styles, the music industry caters to many different teen hairstyles. Yellow

Re-release of this Excellent Pop Single from UK Outfit, Coldplay.
Customer Review: The Weakest Single off of "Parachutes"
"Yellow" is the song that got Coldplay the attention of US audiences, and while it is a good song for sure, it is surely not the best that Coldplay offers on "Parachutes", their debut album which features "Yellow". This CD offers "Yellow" and 2 additonal tracks: "Help Is Around the Corner" is a short (2'34) throwaway with Chris Martin on accoustic guitar that has the feeling of "Hey Chris, we need a track for the single, can you make up something quickly?" "No More Keeping My Feet Off the Ground" is taken from Coldplay's first (independent) release, the EP "Safety" (April 1998), and gives a great insight on how much the band has matured since then. It is the best song on this CD, but the sound is somewhat muffled, yet it shows the band at its intruiging origins. Bottom line: for Coldplay completists only.... If you're looking for Coldplay singles, go instead for "Shiver" or "The Blue Room EP" (see my reviews there)
Customer Review: inspiring
"yellow" is an awesome song to a person who believes in a loving GOD

Do you have the "only if" or "it always happens to me" malady? Is negative thinking getting you down? Are you constantly telling yourself things always go wrong and nothing ever goes right? Has an argument, a mishap, a bad experience with a neighbor, waiter, friend or colleague at work got you down? Are these thoughts on auto-replay in your mind three months later - a year later? And do these constant thoughts make you feel more and more anxious or depressed?

We all suffer from anxious moments and feeling down occasionally, but if these feelings are part of your daily routine, perhaps it is time to evaluate your surroundings and your thinking to see if some positive energy will help. If you continue to focus on things that make you anxious and depressed, you will continue to attract more situations and thoughts that create even more anxiety and despair. What you focus on is what you get. What you think about is what you create.

Positive Thinking = Positive Results

When Norman Vincent Peale wrote his book The Power of Positive Thinking in 1952, he understood the impact of negative thoughts versus positive thinking. He knew that if people would focus their thoughts on positive things they could change their lives for the better. This same principle is at the core of the more recent book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. The good news is, now there is another tool you can use to enhance the ability to stay in a positive mode instead of dropping back and focusing on the negatives.

In the world of Feng Shui, balance is the ultimate objective both in your surroundings and in your mind. If you are always thinking negative thoughts and focusing on the things that have gone wrong in your life, you lose the balance and harmony in your life and attract only the negative things which snowball into more things that go wrong.

Positive Energy Surroundings = Positive Thinking

To stop the constant replay of things going wrong in your life, shift to positive energy in your surroundings and thoughts. What follows are a few easy to apply suggestions on how to create positive energy so you can permanently push the stop button on negative thinking and create a better life which goes your way more often.

1. Step into the light. Go outside where the sun is shining and take a walk. Or, open your curtains and turn on bright lights in your home. Invest in a torchiere lamp that shoots light upward in your favorite room. Light automatically raises your energy levels and thoughts.

2. Find brightly colored rooms to spend time in when feeling down. Go shopping and purchase accent pillows or a throw for the sofa in bright colors to cheer up your favorite room - it will also cheer you up. If you are feeling anxious - spend time in a room that is painted calming colors like blue and green - you will respond positively to the calming energy of these colors.

3. Wear light or bright colored clothing (yellow and orange work great) when feeling despair setting in - they will lift your spirits. Wear calming soft blues and greens when feeling anxious. These colors can change your outlook on life very quickly from negative to positive.

4. Get a notebook or a book for writing and create a Gratitude Journal. Write at least 10 things you are thankful for every day in your journal. If you can't think of anything start with things like having a roof over your head, food on the table or having the ability to walk from your bedroom to the kitchen. Anything will do until you get the hang of it. The more grateful you are for everything in your life the less time you have to feel sorry for yourself and you will find that a lot more things have gone your way than you thought.

5. Play uplifting nurturing music instead of listening to the 6:00 news. There are a lot of music options today so choose wisely - much of it can rob your spirit and create even more anxiety and depression. If you really want stir your energy - play a few John Phillip Susa marches - there is no way you can listen to them and remain down. If you are anxious play classical music like Mozart or inner peace music by artists like Steven Halpern. Music is the universal language that makes the heart dance and the spirit soar creating an abundance of positive energy.

The Feng Shui based suggestions above energize your world and not only lead to positive thinking but also reduce stress, anxiety and the feelings of despair and depression. So often the solution to having a joy-filled happy life truly is in your own back yard - in this case your own home and mind.

Many have long underestimated the power of positive thinking. When you replace the "only ifs" or "it always happens to me" thought process with positive energy, positive thinking is the result. When you think positively, you take control of your life and have a better life - and that is good.
