Def Jam Recordings - EMBROIDERED LOGO Hoodie , Burgundy

Def Jam was founded by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin in Rubin's dorm room at New York University. The first releases on Def Jam Recordings were LL Cool J's I Need A Beat and the Beastie Boys' Rock Hard, both in 1984. The singles sold well, eventually lea

Asian-themed performances like NTDTVs Chinese New Year Spectacular offer an entirely new experience for many Westerners, partly because they are so different from the more typical, narrative-driven, performing art forms. They ask something different from the audience a slight shift in expectations, a shift in sensibility.

The appreciation for what is implied rather than what is in plain sight sets Asian art apart from Western art. Traditional Chinese dance, for example, is less precise and strict in form than its Western counterpart, ballet. It is because it attempts to evoke a different sort of feeling. Like a glass of claret with its subtle undertones, this kind of dance leaves room for the imagination while leaving a lasting impression.

The following story may help shed some light on the mystery:

Once there was an art dealer who had a painting that depicted a young farm boy leading a horse across a bridge. The boy was facing the horse, his body leaning back, and he looked like he was exerting great effort. One day a buyer came in and had to have this painting. However, he didnt have enough money on him to buy this rather expensive artwork right away. So he asked the dealer to hold the painting for him while he went home to get the funds. As the seller took the painting down, he noticed it was missing the rope the boy should have been using to lead the horse. Without much thought, he picked up an ink brush and added a rope to fix this apparent flaw in the painting. When the buyer came back and saw the new rope, he was terribly upset. He told the dealer: I was only willing to spend so much on this painting because of the rope that wasnt seen but could still be felt!

The more something is described in a concrete way, the smaller the range it covers. For example, the phrase hot water describes not only water but its temperature, so although hot water is more specific than water, it precludes warm water, cold water, and other kinds of water and is therefore more limited. Perhaps this is why so much of Chinese art seems to speak in generalities. Ink landscape paintings with their broad brush strokes and wide swaths intentionally left blank are particularly hard for the Western eye to grasp. These paintings can often seem vague and unclear, but to the discerning viewer, each brush stroke speaks volumes.

The same holds for the Chinese language -- known for being extraordinarily concise and yet also rich and descriptive precisely because it is so succinct. Indeed, many Chinese words and proverbs contain concepts that could take paragraphs to explain in another language.

The NTDTV holiday shows seem to have struck a balance between the more refined traditional dance forms and the simple pleasures of rousing music, impressive large scale dances with dozens of dancers moving in sync, and, of course, gorgeous costumes and backdrops. The shows offer enough new flavors to be intriguing without being overly foreign. The more subtle elements may be lost on many in the audience, but their presence nonetheless enriches the entire performance for everyone. Ultimately, stories of grace and virtue told through song and dance will speak to us all forever.

Customer Review: Melody and Simplicity Back in Pop
Respect and objectiveness are essential in every review or comment we make, wheather we're talking about music or about our own lives. In a few words, and not being exactly crazy about Coldplay and having a truly wide music range within my preferences, I feel Coldplay are one of the new young bands that have given optimism and simplicity, melody and beauty back to pop music. And we're talking about no genius here but simply about the will to stop crying about todays depressed world and maybe about our own depression, worries or fears, but to sing about the good things in life - things about which many of us forget every day. YELLOW has childish and, to some, even meaningless words, it's true, but we can otherwise interpret the song as a simple call to realize the stars in heaven can suddenly become the icon of hope and optimism - then we say life is worth after all. If that's a crime - as some of you suggest - I do not agree. Chris Martin may not be the best of voices to emerge in british pop lately but is certainly a talented song-writer being honest and simple as he is. We are in front of four young guys playing and singing to the brighter side of life and even the bright side of not so good events in out lives. PARACHUTES is a simple collection of thoughts and sounds that take as back to an essential truth - you don't always have to suffer with music. Everything is not lost, Don't panic - statements like these seem very important to me in days like these, particularly if we care about the rest. Some or many of the Amazon customers may not and do not have to agree - but, to me, Coldplay are a talented cuartet that will probably be remembered for their honesty and their will to share their love and amuzement. I recommend YELLOW and the whole PARACHUTES album to anyone into direct and melodic pop and am very glad to hear their 2nd album is being recorded.
Customer Review: i love it!
this song is realy really good! Yellow is being played on all the radio stations!I like it because it has such a good meaning. The band Clodplay is saying what they would do for a girl that they love. I recomend this Cd for anyone.

It was the spring of 1997 and I was a sophomore in high school. I was in Austin, Texas, with about 25 other classmates from my high school. We traveled down to Austin to watch other schools, large and small, participate in the state one-act play contest. We wanted to soak up everything we could about state-quality plays after losing disappointedly in the competition circuit a few months before. Can you imagine being the theater instructor or one of the parents chaperoning such an event? With male and female high schoolers ranging in age of 15 - 18 with varying maturity levels and hormones ranging, I did not envy them. Needless to say, it was an interesting road trip.

Our theater instructor Ms. Murphy had to drive one of those school provided white utility vans hauling her share of the kids for five hours south on I-35 and around town while another parent did the same. We were "her kids" since she never had any of her own. We loved playing tricks and mind games with her, almost as much as she liked playing them on us. Every year her house was toilet papered and forked - not because we didn't like her. We loved her. That's why we didn't throw eggs.

I was riding with the group driven by one of the parents which ended up being a wild ride. We hit a couple of curbs, got lost, drove half way across Travis County the wrong way, and, I found out after the fact, almost ran out of gas! We ended up getting stopped for a taillight out, but since it was a school sponsored trip, the officer let her off with a warning and she did not have to take a defensive driving course in Austin, although she might have needed it.

After all that, we finally made it to the hotel where more hijacks insured. The next day we went and watched lots of plays. Some good, some bad, some outright confusing (all plays had to be cut from the original length to 40 minutes, most were originally 1
to 2). The road trip down there was not the highlight of the trip, nor were the plays, but I will tell you what was the most interesting part.

The next day the plays did not start until afternoon, so we piled in the white utility vans again and went to the local mall and Central Market. We were moving through the store as a group when someone pointed out to one of us with a camera that Harry Connick Jr. and Sandra Bullock were in the store and she should try to take their picture. We did just that. Harry looked like he had just gotten up from bed with some peacock hair, but he was very pleasant and congenial. Sandra looked a little peeved in the picture. She was probably on her lunch break from being on the set of Hope Floats (Fox 1998) being filmed at the time.

I don't remember any of the plays that year, but I do remember the trip down there and meeting these two actors at the height of their careers. Maybe it was a sign, or a stroke of good luck, or the just the fact that we made down there alive, but we did make to state the next year, not as audience members, but as participants.

Play Acoustic Guitar with Coldplay

Since ancient times women have been viewed, in many cultures, as mens inferiors physically, morally, and intellectually. Today, in western cultures, women enjoy more freedom and equality than ever before in history. Despite the gains made by women in recent years, particularly in the U.S., many women worldwide still find that their access to education, employment, healthcare and political influence are limited because of their gender. These discrepancies continue to exist because many societies still maintain centuries-old social and religious laws, customs, and traditions that have created barriers to education, jobs, and healthcare, as well as deprive women of their political and civil rights.

Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is usually defined as a form of discrimination in which sexual advances or requests for sexual favors constitute a condition of a persons employment or advancement in the workplace. It frequently occurs between a male and a female, often instigated by a male manager or other person in power. While many countries are starting to have laws against such discrimination, it is often reported that the laws are not enforced.
Sexual harassment occurs in workplaces worldwide, including the United States. Laws that specifically prohibit sexual harassment have been enacted in Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, but many other countries are still in the process of studying the problem. There are two types of sexual harassment defined by U.S. law: quid pro quo and hostile environment. Quid pro quo means that an employee is asked to perform a sexual act in exchange for a job, promotion, or other perk. A hostile environment is described as one which contains situations, acts, or items that can inhibit the productivity of an employee, such as sexually suggestive language, behavior, or pictures.

Some strategies (as discussed in more detail below) for employees who experience sexual harassment include confronting the individual by informing him or her of the intrusive behavior and requesting that he or she stop it, notifying management or, should management be the offender, notifying the personnel department or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). (In the United States, call toll free 800-669-EEOC or see www.eeoc.gov to find your local office.) The EEOC will be able to provide you with written guidelines for determining what constitutes sexual harassment and how to deal with it.

Sexual Discrimination

The American businesswoman may unwittingly and unavoidably be party to conversations and actions that discriminate against women. For example, in Asian businesses it is natural to ask a female employee to serve tea, and a woman may be subjected to innocent questions about her age, marital status, and whether or not she has children. In Korea and Japan, protocol has men entering rooms and elevators ahead of women. In Europe, office talk tends to be more flirtatious and sexual in nature, sprinkled with many off-color jokes and puns. Derogatory statements about women in Germany are often expressed openly in the office, and reference to a womans physique is not uncommon in Italy and France. Other countries still view a woman who is alone as a prostitute since otherwise her husband, boyfriend or family would accompany her. American women often view excessive flattery by Latin Americans as derogatory because U.S. office policies would not tolerate such comments.

Some women report that suggestive sexual comments are sometimes used (consciously or unconsciously) as negotiating tools in an attempt to throw a woman off her guard. Women must be prepared for this and develop the ability to keep control and not show anger or other emotion. Some tactics women have used successfully to respond to such situations include: giving a polite verbal reprimand to remind your counterparts that you are conducting a business session; suggesting a break while stating the negotiation has obviously gotten off track; or ending the negotiation in its entirety to show absolute intolerance and disapproval.

Gender Issues in Europe

Most women in Europe are still battling the glass ceiling even more than women in the U.S. There are fewer women in upper management and more hierarchical issues with which to grapple. Furthermore, European women are still expected to handle all responsibilities relating to home and family. This interferes with their ability to hold down a job unless they are wealthy enough to have hired help at home. Shopping hours are still not convenient for working women and day care is often not available. Younger women do not have the role models of older women in the business world, so they must often work harder to establish credibility and to break into the upper ranks of business. Derogatory comments about women appear to be more accepted by the public. For example, in England the derogatory terms cow and bird are widely used, even on TV, and in films, to refer to women. In France and Italy it is not unusual for males to touch women inappropriately.

Gender Issues in Asia

Asian culture has traditionally placed more value on male offspring and on the male roles of ruler, protector, cultivator, and breadwinner. The male is out in the world, while the female remains at home to manage the household and raise the children. Asian males have consequently been in a dominant position over Asian women and have largely controlled their means of livelihood.

Centuries ago male philosophers, Chinas elite, developed precepts of behavior -- notably passivity and obedience -- that women were expected, or forced, to follow. Women were subordinated to their fathers, brothers, husbands, and even sons. Historically, marriages in Asia were arranged not for love, but for family connections. The bride usually lived under the domination of the husbands mother and frequently faced competition from secondary wives and concubines. Her husband was allowed to repudiate his wife, especially if she did not produce a male heir. If the husband died, the wife could not easily remarry. She had no economic independence, was frequently illiterate, and had no property rights. Infanticide limited the number of female children.

Today, Asian countries continue to be patriarchal societies with strong traditions. When a woman marries, she generally joins her husbands family, and her ties with her own family weaken. The couple either lives with the husbands family or, as is occurring more frequently, on its own. If there is a divorce, the father often gets custody of the children. Divorce is considered shameful and is rarely discussed. Divorce rates, which used to be very low in East Asia, are growing however, as women become more economically independent.

There is an old Chinese saying: Women are the moon reflecting the sunlight, meaning women reflect the glow of men. Young, educated East Asian women increasingly reject this old saying. They emphasize their individuality, independence, personal responsibility, hard work, and careers, even as they try to maintain their femininity. Yet the few recent studies of Asian women indicate that many still feel inferior to men and worry about managing a career and a family. Job discrimination is still practiced in Asia. Family connections are very important in obtaining desirable jobs. Stereotyping women as the weaker, less capable sex still prevails.

Gender Issues in Latin America

The concept of machismo is important in Mexico and other Latin American countries, although American businesswomen will encounter more macho attitudes in Mexico than in any other a part of Latin America. The word "macho" does not carry a negative connotation in Mexico, as it does in the U.S. For a Mexican, the word "macho" implies strength, valor, self-confidence and masculinity, which are all considered positive qualities. There is also an underlying assumption in the culture that men are supposed to be stronger, braver, wiser and more sexually knowledgeable than women. Displays of machismo include: showing courage in a bullring, risk-taking, taking part in bar room confrontations, and displaying sexual prowess by bragging about sexual conquests or by having a large family. To be macho also requires the repudiation of all characteristics considered feminine, such as unselfishness, kindness, frankness and truthfulness.
The proof of a mans maleness in this culture is his ability to completely dominate his wife and his children and to have sexual relations with any woman he desires. A double moral standard exists between the fidelity expectations placed upon males and females in Mexico and Latin America. A woman's primary obligation is to make a home and procreate; she is dedicated to a life of service and no infidelity on her part is tolerated. However, men who maintain mistresses are within their legal rights as long as they are discreet about their affairs. A man can frequently divorce his wife if she commits adultery, but the wife can only divorce her husband if the act took place in their home.

Macho men will often express an air of superiority when it comes to dealing with American women in business. They may be overly polite and attentive to a woman, but in a patronizing way. Machismo may be expressed in terms of canceled, forgotten, or ignored meetings, and other frustrations and delays. Businesswomen, especially when traveling alone, should expect a high likelihood of unwelcome sexual advances. Examples of this include: overly long eye contact, the pressing of legs under the table, and an overemphasis on how appealing a woman looks. Most businesswomen advise against entertaining a man alone. Instead, they suggest that a group be arranged. They also emphasize that a woman should establish herself as a businesswoman even at her hotel, and dress conservatively in business suits.

Strategies for Coping

It is important for you, your team, and your managers to understand the strategies you should pursue if you find yourself in a compromising situation. Managers should be well-versed on their responsibilities in cases where women have been harassed, and they should understand how to act in accordance with company policy and governing laws. It is important to realize, for example, that an executive team based in the home office in the United States is actually legally responsible for the actions of their employees worldwide, including in subsidiaries in foreign countries.
Working in the international arena can be challenging. Many foreign countries have no laws or regulations concerning sexual harassment, or they are not enforced, and as a result employees in many countries do not understand the American viewpoint. As a result, male managers in the U.S. who are unfamiliar with more traditional societies may avoid sending female staff members to represent their companies to these cultures, fearing that these businesswomen cannot be effective in male-oriented societies. This viewpoint, however, may be keeping these executives from using what is in fact their strongest asset, since womens perceived attributes -- being good listeners, mediators, and consensus builders -- are well-received in international business. Male managers only need to become knowledgeable about the situation in other countries and what their responsibilities are in the event of sexual harassment. They can then send their female staff members with confidence.

U.S. courts (see www.eeoc.gov) offer some legal remedies and suggestions for handling discrimination and harassment situations: The (U.S.) courts have established that corporations that assign a U.S. citizen to a post in a foreign country must treat that employee as if he or she were in the U.S., regardless of local customs and traditions. Recent Supreme Court cases suggest several legal/human resource strategies that can be used to prevent gender discrimination. The first is: to educate and prepare employees sent to work in different countries abroad. Should a dispute arise, arbitration or mediation is preferred over litigation. The best overall strategy is to develop and implement a well-conceived company policy that ensures gender equality (Cava, A. & Mayer, D., 1993).

Management Responsibility

The elimination of sexual harassment starts at home. If your company doesnt have a company policy on discrimination and sexual harassment at home, there will be little to back you up if you find yourself facing such situations in the international environment. Top management must therefore take a proactive role in eradicating it from the workplace. There are many good reasons for doing so. Sexual harassment can reduce employee productivity and morale, and consequently it can have a negative impact on a companys bottom line, as well as cost firms a great deal in lawsuits.
It is the responsibility of the executive staff to eliminate sexual harassment. Top management must instruct its staff that sexual harassment is illegal and will not be tolerated.. Issuing sexual harassment policies, scheduling open discussions, expressing disapproval, creating a path for resolution and complaint, and respecting individual privacy should all be part of the top management plan. A comfortable environment with open, company-wide communication is key to alleviating any inhibitions employees may have about discussing their experiences.

As a first step, a company needs a visible, comprehensive policy emphasizing the importance of appropriate behavior: harassment and social misconduct toward its employees will not be tolerated. This policy should also state the ramifications of any violations. Hard copies of the company policy should be distributed not only internally but also to customers and suppliers. A copy of the policy should be available to all employees and visibly posted in work and rest areas. The company should have training programs for its management staff and its employees on a regular basis.
If you are in management, you can play a key role. Do not overlook or refuse to acknowledge that problems can occur in other countries, because this will only help reinforce their acceptance. If one of your traveling staff is harassed, it will interfere with the productivity of your business dealings. Harassment also violates U.S. law. It is frustrating for an individual who has faced sexual harassment to work with or for staff who do not understand the seriousness of the offense, or travel with a manager who does not speak or act on behalf of employees.

Individual Responsibility

Prepare yourself for the possibility of encountering sexual harassment when you travel abroad. When you are visiting countries that are male-dominated and still have little awareness of womens rights, your actions may actually have a greater impact on foreign men than written policies. In these situations, men wont expect women to assert themselves, and if you strongly voice your disapproval of inappropriate behavior, these men will often back down. Also, most businessmen would not want to lose a business deal by offending someone.

Most women report that while their business days go smoothly, the after-hours socializing that occurs in some countries can become a challenge. It is still common, for example, for Asian men to go out drinking after work. While drinking, they feel more comfortable about voicing their inner feelings. If you are the lone woman in your group, you may become the target for questions that would not be asked during working hours. In Asia, drinking excuses what Americans may consider appallingly inappropriate behavior. While the American may remain upset if he or she feels anything untoward has occurred during an evening, the incident is generally ignored by the Asian participants the next day as they carry on with business as usual. In Latin America, women are often the targets of flattering comments about their appearance by Latin American men, sometimes to the point that it feels intrusive to the women.

Should you be subjected to what you feel is sexual harassment, remain calm and professional. This attitude will have much more impact than if you become upset or angry. In many cases men may have been trying to incite you or test your resilience. In most cases you can either respond with a calm statement of disapproval, or you can show your disapproval by remaining silent. If you are in a situation that has become particularly unpleasant, you can always leave.

If you are traveling overseas on business and have been accosted, you are still protected as an employee of an U.S. firm, and should take action in accordance with your firms sexual harassment policy. It is always best to report the incident rather than being passive and keeping it to yourself. This way, if the perpetrator is an employee of your firm, he can be corrected or reprimanded, and if he is employed by another firm, at least your executives will be aware of the issue when deciding whether to enter further business dealings with that company.

Be Prepared

If you are single, avoid talking about your personal lifestyle or dating, as these subjects can lead to uncomfortable conversations. In particular, do not discuss your marital situation if you are divorced or living with someone.

If you feel that a conversation is inappropriate, dont respond. Just change the subject.

Avoid situations where any unwanted intimacy may be initiated, such as dinners for two.

Be careful that your actions cannot be interpreted as being either aggressive or flirtatious.

If your international hosts insist on opening doors for you or holding your chair at the dining table, graciously allow them do so. Remember they are trying to respond appropriately when working with women.

Avoid eating or drinking alone in strange restaurants, since you may be viewed as a pick-up target. Ask your hotel concierge for restaurant recommendations.

Responding to Uncomfortable Questions

When you are asked a question you consider uncomfortable or inappropriate, use short, standard answers to discourage further questioning. For example, many women are asked their marital status, their age, and, if married, about dual careers. While these questions may be unusual, they are often more commonly asked in foreign countries as a form of interest about you, a woman who may be very different than women in their own country. You can answer these in a polite manner while suggesting that the questions are not appropriate by giving answers such as My career keeps me very busy, or I am younger than I look. Ignoring the question and changing the subject is a simple way of redirecting the conversation. If the questions are more direct and aggressive and sexual in nature, be assertive and answer, This is not an appropriate question to ask, or, if the questioner continues to be uncooperative, try to embarrass him by telling another group member about your discomfort. Silence can also be very effective.

Strategies for responding to uncomfortable questions also include:

You may be asked seemingly intrusive questions about your marital status and whether or not you have children. Prepare some stock answers or change the topic of conversation to one that is more comfortable for you.

You might be invited to a bar after dinner. Whether or not you want to attend is your choice. Its not impolite to say no, giving jet lag or business commitments such as faxes, e-mails, or phone calls as an excuse.

If your host exhibits inappropriate behavior, inform him that you are uncomfortable and that you want him to stop.

f you are traveling with a team, have other team members join you in expressing dissatisfaction with the situation. This will usually end the unwanted behavior, since to continue it will cause bad feelings.

If you are in a social setting that is becoming uncomfortable, inform your host that you are uncomfortable and would like to leave. Politely request that he call you a taxi. If he does not cooperate, ask the establishments staff to call one for you.

If no action is taken, get ready to leave and state the reasons you are leaving. There is no reason to stay in a situation that is uncomfortable for you.

An employee who desires to leave while his or her colleagues desire to stay should do so and not feel badly about breaking up the fun.

Dips, Lifts, and Solos to Spice up Your Salsa

Customer Review: Weeeeeeell.....
The dips and lifts part is good. There isn't much instruction for the woman on this video other than curl your arm, keep clean lines, and other few things pointed out. I guess if you have a good leader and you are a good follower you wouldn't need much. I was disappointed with the solo part. I was expecting more instruction but she just does her thing and i guess you are supposed to learn by watching. I really would have preferred a breakdown. They did include a breakdown in the lifts that follow the solo. Overall, its pretty good, especially for the men or anyone leading, but found a little lacking on the woman's part.
Customer Review: Good selection
I would recommend this tape to anyone out there. The moves are excellant and well presented. If anything the lighting could have been better and there was too much space on the set such that the people seem to be too far back and you can't see their facial details. These are minor details however in the dance scheme of things. Good work overall.

Do you feel overwhelmed? Are you agitated and don't have a clue why? You could be experiencing energy overload! Read on to learn how to harness valuable energy for clear thinking, a loving heart, and greater awareness.

A reader asked me,

"How do we cope with the stress of the higher vibrational levels coming into our bodies and onto the planet at an unimaginably fast pace right now?"

The higher intensity energy has been on my mind quite a bit. I see it's effects world-wide in the daily news. Learning how to harness this energy safely is an important task for us all. I will share with you what I have learned.

Symptoms of Energy Overload

  • You feel irritated or angry and don't have a clue why
  • You are spaced out and can't focus or remember what you are supposed to be doing
  • You feel tired and can't think
  • You get headaches and stomach aches
  • You feel disconnected from yourself
  • You blame others for your uncomfortable feelings
  • You last out at others with a lack of self-control
Actions you can take to harness the energy and benefit from it

You must Exercise. The energy naturally travels through the nervous system. When it is too intense for the nervous system, we feel freaked out, angry, and agitated. Exercise draws the energy out into the muscles where it is more beneficial to the body. Pilate's, yoga, weight lifting, swimming, cardio are all good, but strength training like weight lifting is the most effective way to draw the energy out into your muscles. If you are not doing a form of weight lifting, consider adding it to your exercise program.

Movement is essential! Prayer walking is a most beneficial way to move the energy through your body productively. Walk at a vigorous pace while praying for yourself and others. Also use this time to pray about important topics and then listen to gain understanding.

Dance. Put on some music that just makes you want to move! Could be any style from slow or sensuous to heavy metal and jumping around, or anything in between. Let the energy dance your body. Let go of concerns of life and want to be taken over by the love of the Lord. Dancing in prayer and intention gets the energy into every cell of your body and fragment of your being to help you function clearly and effectively. Following a dance session, sit in silence and listen for inner guidance. It will be clearest after this kind of connection with yourself and God.

Eat red meat. It is difficult to sustain health without eating red meat with the influx of this intense energy. I find I must a eat large amount of red meat to stay present and functional in my body. Of course, you must consider your unique body needs.

The reader who asked the question suggests a short 10 - 20 minute time out to either rest, meditate, practice deep breathing, or nap.

Benefits of harnessing the energy

  • You feel balanced, calm, and present
  • Your mind is clear and you feel highly functional
  • Your body feels stronger and more capable
  • It is easier to connect with the truest part of your being
  • Your awareness is enhanced
  • You feel energized and alive
  • Being present within yourself results in greater self-responsibility
  • Your heart is available for LOVE!
  • You care greatly about the wellbeing of others
  • You want to connect with others
  • You have no time for non-sense

Brand New, never worn 100% cotton front print black Authentic KAISER CHIEFS T-shirt.

The extremely talented group Counting Crows have released their most recent CD on the Geffen Records recording label, entitled August And Everything After.

Unfortunately, its not everyday that I get a CD for review that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just cant force myself to get through. Not at all the case with August And Everything After. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

These days its a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. This CD is certainly one of those rare CDs. This is a first rate CD, delivering a little something for everyone. I give it two thumbs up. Its quite simply great listening. A must buy for the Rock fan.

While this entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 4 - Perfect Blue Buildings, track 6 - Time And Time Again, and track 11 - A Murder Of One.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Round Here. Wow!

Lex Parsimoniae is Latin for "Law of Parsimony", which pulled out into its simplest form is the The Law of what can be spared, should.

This is a theory that I have been studying for the past year and through observation believe that this can be applied to all situations that require a more efficient, functional solution. This paradigm has many names, but is best know as Occam's Razor. His razor suggests that when resources are limited or when speed of function is essential, design / complexity trade-offs should be based on what does the least harm to the probability of success, however that is defined.

Form is Function

There is a school of thought that beauty in design results in good function, but I prefer to subscribe the fact that just concentration on the functionality will by its very nature, create its own aura of design. Sometimes, the focus on functional efficiency inspires a feeling that goes beyond aesthetics and ultimately give us the sense that its form is of a higher echelon.

Barrier To Entry

The brain is an amazing piece of kit. One of its most amazing functions is its ability to optimise when processing data. Each brain has been trained over many years (or maybe it inherently has the ability) to simplify individual objects into groups. Instead of seeing each individual blade of grass, the mind sees a field. Millions of pieces of data grouped into one object because it knows, to comprehend millions of pieces of grass would take and enormous amount of effect. Effect that could be focused elsewhere. So it generalises to make life easier. This sort of information overload can happen in design as well; Too much will distract from your likely objective. Remember that 7 Second Rule? If your web app or website has 7 seconds to impress then wouldn't you prefer showing off your functional muscles? How useful your app is? and not long it takes to load the really cool (bandwidth crunching) design? Remember how it easy it is to make your mind up about someone when you them for the first time. Same rules apply.

Just Do It!

What are your objectives and goals? Hopefully, when developing a web app or website, to make your (or your users) life easier! And let's remember, this 'thing' we call the Internet is broken. So don't break any further with dodgy CSS and bloated javascript. Functional Turn Around is the most impressive aspect for me these days. Spend time developing how the app works, refine it, refine it again, then again. Then when it works, design around the edges. If you like Latin phrase then try this one:

"entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem", or "entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity"

or just remember, K.I.S.S - Keep it Simple, Stupid!

I met Richard Mekdeci, the heart and soul of Itoi Music, at the recent (August 2007) IONS (Institute of Noetic Sciences) Conference. In addition to Richard's considerable talents as an inspirational singer-songwriter and musician, Richard is a co-founder of I to i Ministries,, a non-profit dedicated to bringing positive spiritual music to people of all faith traditions. Part of what I to i Ministries and Richard have created is an opportunity to vote on your favorite songs, which can be accomplished online.

Their latest compilation CD, Imagination to Inspiration, is a truly wonder-filled chalice of heart-opening songs. Focused on the Global New Thought community, which includes Religious Science, Unity and affiliated churches, Imagination to Inspiration showcases 19 tracks by 18 different musicians. Every song features inspiring lyrics that invite us to co-create a world where everyone, everywhere feels safe, loved and celebrated. Having listened to this fabulous collection perhaps a dozen times, I can say that I have yet to get all the way through it without, sooner or later, tears of joy and thanksgiving streaming down my face.

Just a couple of my favorite songs on Imagination to Inspiration include the piano-based, county-tinged "Real Men Cry," by Karen Taylor Good. Giving men permission to feel their feelings is a passion of mine, and I love what Karen did with this track. "Do All You Can," by Devotion, is a delightfully intoxicating call to "be the change you wish to see."

Richard and I to i are performing miracles with truly inspired (in-spirited) music every day. Listening to this incredible collection is sure to put a smile on your face and a song in your heart. Kudos to Richard and his amazing team for Being the Change!

El Cantante

Though they don't look much alike, slight actor-singer Marc Anthony was born to play robust salsa sensation Héctor Lavoe. In addition to similar ancestry and vocal skills, Anthony has been building a respectable cinematic resume with roles in Big Night and Martin Scorsese's Bringing out the Dead. The title of El Cantante comes from a number Rubén Blades wrote for The Singer. Lavoe would make it his signature song. In the film, Anthony's wife, producer Jennifer Lopez, plays Puchi, the Nuyorican beauty who won Lavoe's heart. She narrates their story from the perspective of 2002 (the real-life Puchi passed away shortly afterwards). Leon Ichaso (Piñero) contrasts Lavoe's rise from Puerto Rican street singer to New York superstar with his fall from innocent immigrant to heroin-addicted ladies man. By the mid-1980s, Lavoe's popularity hit its peak, and Ichaso spends the rest of the time ticking off the tragedies of his final years: the break with trombonist Willie Colón (John Ortiz), stay in a mental ward, etc. It's a dynamic portrait, and Anthony and Lopez work well together, but despite the urban setting and Latin-flavored soundtrack, El Cantante follows virtually the same trajectory as Ray and Walk the Line (Ichaso has also directed biopics of Jimi Hendrix and Muhammad Ali). His movie looks and sounds authentic, but Lavoe's story might've been better served as nonfiction. There's a sense that there was more to the man than what appears on screen. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Customer Review: El cantante sings!
I loved this movie and I also love JLo and Marc Anthony! I think this movie was underrated. If you are truly interested in Hector Lavoe, you will love it. If you buy it just cause you want to see JLo and Marc, you probably won't like it. They are good in the movie but the story is what made it for me. Of course, it goes without saying, Marc Anthony's voice is supberb!
Customer Review: WONDERFUL....
I rented this film recently and was surprised at how good it was. The story depicts the stormy life and tragic end to the great salsa legend Hector Lavoe. This movie hits you in the heart from the start. It makes you care about the character and his music. I now own a cd of Hector Lavoe and I never knew I could like salsa. Who knew?? His music is amazing and the tragic events of his life makes you want to know the person behind the prose of his songs. My ears know good music when it hears it and this man was a icon. Hector Lavoe.......rest in peace! I'm not much of a fan of Jennifer Lopez but she played a good role. However, another actress (a more popular one) would have made this film more marketable to the non-Hispanic population ( mass audience).

Why do people spend so much time creating and uploading content for the internet? In the view of MySpace guru Richard Rosenblatt, the answer is age-old: 'People like to express themselves, and they want to be famous. Those are two things we saw from the very beginning of MySpace. Five years ago MySpace didn't even exist; in 2008 it's going to do $800 million in revenue, and generate more page views than anything on the web.' Making the news

As the vice president of research for Hitwise UK, Heather Hopkins is close to the statistics: 'Four of the most-visited sites in the UK are social media sites. Bebo, MySpace, YouTube and Facebook are all in the top 20. Given how new this category is, that's pretty remarkable.'

Heather also sees user-generated sites making a major impact in the news arena: 'Earlier this year, we looked at three major news events: Saddam Hussein's hanging, Zinedine Zidane's head-butt during the World Cup, and the Israel-Lebanon conflict. When we looked at how people were searching for those events, and where they went after they'd searched, we found Google News, Wikipedia and YouTube figured more prominently than the sites of mainstream media news companies.'

Social networking and user-generated content were once the province of IT geeks and teenagers in bedrooms. Not any more. Richard Rosenblatt has seen a huge change: 'Over 50% of MySpace users are over 35, which is a statistic that nobody even believes. Social networks started as a way for teens to express themselves, but the tools have gotten so much better and the demographic has really expanded. That has profound effects, because you're now talking about people of 25- or 35-plus who are interested in producing content.'

Richard's latest, 3i-backed venture Demand Media (see panel) plays to the internet's changing demographics. As users age, Richard foresees a fundamental change in their relationship with the internet, with less focus on general connections and more on shared interests: 'We think the next wave is social media in verticals - like golfing, hiking, gaming or airliners. If you go to our site http://www.airliners.net/, it's a community that generates 80 million page views a month just putting up pictures and talking about planes.'

Building B2B communities

But if the wave of user-generation has well and truly taken hold in the consumer space, what about the vast B2B market? Peter de Monnink, head strategist at Reed Business (see panel) expects rapid growth: 'Currently, the user-generated content on most B2B websites is relatively small but it's gaining strong traction. Whenever we change the platform so users can interact, the traffic goes up. That's good, because once we have the reach, we can start to build engagement. And once we've built engagement, we can monetise the traffic.

'User-generated content is imperative for community building. If titles and brands in the B2B space don't interact with the communities that they serve, the brand gravity lacks a certain element and will be harder to monetise.

'It's also essential to develop a brand which has both an online and offline presence. Print publications with a strong, community-driven presence online are more valuable than B2B communities that aren't supported by print publications. A print publication shows that you have experts in the field, who are able to generate content.'

Democratising expertise

In the B2B market, the distinction between expert- and user-generated content may be vital. But in the wider world, it's a distinction that Richard Rosenblatt questions: 'I think the line between independent content creator and expert is starting to blur more and more. Clearly someone with a PhD in biophysics is an expert but who's really an expert in the best way to cook jambalaya?

'Our tools are getting better and better at letting users determine whether you're an expert. If you are, you'll get paid handsomely because people will click on your ads and read your articles more. The web is great at letting people decide for themselves what's quality content and what's not.'

Customer Review: Fantastic energy!
Simple awesome movie and I was really enthralled by the charisma, the energy of the lead actor. The movie as such is similar to many 80's dance movies but being a Salsa dancer I enjoyed this one so much more. I now keep it in my laptop and watch the opening scene every time I need some positive feel or want to get into the mood of hitting the dance floors. Highly recommended to the Salseros.
Customer Review: Don't Waste Your Money
I bought this because my teenage son and his girlfriend loved Take The Lead and were interested in learning more about latin dancing. The dancing is marginal but the dialogue and acting are TERRIBLE! We couldn't watch it after the first 20 minutes - even the teenagers who, quite frankly, are not the best judges of acting!

Ultimate Santana

2008 reissue housed in a deluxe cardboard slipcase. This single disc anthology brings the legendary guitarist's best recordings of his Arista Records era together with his greatest classics from the Columbia Records years on a single compact disc. Among the 18 tracks are the chart toppers 'Smooth', 'Maria Maria', 'Black Magic Woman', 'The Game Of Love' (with both Michelle Branch and Tina Turner), 'Oye Como Va' and many more. Sony/BMG.
Customer Review: big mistake
YUK! I just recently started downloading mp3s and really screwed up when I bought this thinking it would be the Carlos Santana music I knew in the 60s. What else would "Ulitmate Santana" mean? Instead most of the album is just Santana accompanying some bozo singing stupid disco type songs. My bad. Remember, when it says "featuring so-and-so" it usually means you better like so-and-so and not care too much about who the titled performer is.
Customer Review: Great songs, but...
Carlos Santana has very few bad albums, or even bad songs. (Stay away from his collaboration with John McLaughlin though.) If you're looking for a one-disk compilation and are familiar with his later songs plus his late 60's hits, the songs here will be familiar. But... try Caravanserai, Borboletta, or some of his other unbelievable albums from "in between". If this is all you know of Carlos Santana, you have a lot to discover! What you hear on this disk is just an introduction. I give this review 4 stars rather than 5 not because there are bad songs on this CD (there aren't), but because you, as a Santana listener, deserve more.

All social activities have rules of etiquette and social dancing is no different. There are general rules of etiquette that apply to all forms of dancingsmooth, Latin, Texas Two-step, even disco line dance. Knowing these rules will make the dance floor experience enjoyable for everyone.

Before the Dance

There is no delicate way to put this: Please practice good hygiene. Offensive body odors and bad breath are frowned upon on the dance floor. Many dance aficionados will go so far as to avoid eating certain strong foods on the days they are planning to dance. At the very least, a good shower, deodorant, and a swig of mouthwash will ensure that you dance the night away without offending your partner.

Clothing will vary by the type of event formal, semi-formal, dressy casual, even shorts but can also vary by the type of dance. You may choose to wear western wear for country line dancing, or dark themed clothing for Tango. This is not required but if you are a novice it is great way to get accepted into a new dance community. There are a few general rules that apply to all dances:

Avoid big accessories that can get caught in your partners clothing or, worse, scratch or bruise someone.

It is advisable to avoid tennis shoes or any rubber soled, spongy type shoe. These shoes tend to stick to the floor (as they are intended to); if you are executing spins and turns, you can injure an ankle or knee.

Remember that dancing will require a partner. It is not pleasant to touch someones damp, sticky skin so avoid sleeveless shirts and dresses.

Women with long hair should consider wearing it up or in a ponytail to avoid hitting a partner in the face during a spin or having your partners hand get caught in it.

Men should carry keys and loose change in their left pants pocket making it less likely to bruise their partner.

At the Dance

Before you hit the dance floor, you will need a partner. It is considered rude to dance with the same partner all night, even if it happens to be your spouse! If you came with a partner it is generally accepted that they shall have the first and last dance. It is also considered rude to dance more than two songs in a row with the same person.

When asking someone to dance, you should do so politely and accept a refusal just as politely. These days it is acceptable for men and women to ask someone to dance. If you are on the receiving end of an invitation, remember that it is rude to turn down a dance with someone and then accept an invitation from another partner during the same song.

Once a song is over, men should escort women back to their seats or to wherever they were standing prior to the dance. If someone has just finished dancing, wait until they are completely off the dance floor before inviting them back out again. Do not pounce on someone as they are leaving the dance floor.

Do not block access to the dance floor by standing and talking or moving chairs into pathways. Dance spaces are usually crowded so be considerate of others space.

Social dances are categorized into two types progressive and spot dances. Progressive dances travel the floor like the Polka, Foxtrot, and Waltz. Spot dances are typically danced in one spot and include Salsa, Rumba and East Coast Swing. Dancers move counterclockwise around the floor in progressive dances. This is known as the line of dance and is like an imaginary circle going counterclockwise. In addition to the line of dance there are two lanes, the outside or fast lane and the inside or slow lane. Dances such as the Tango, Waltz, and Foxtrot are danced in the two outer lanes. Spot dances such as the Cha Cha, Swing or slow dancing are danced in the inside lanes.

Newbie dancers should move toward the center or outer edges, depending on the style of dance. While newbies should concede more space to more experienced dancers, it is equally rude for experienced dancers to hog floor space with fancy moves which force other dancers out of the way.

By following these simple rules of dance etiquette, you are sure to have a great time dancing the night away!

UK digi-pack pressing of their first single from their 2005 album, 'X & Y'. The album version of the title track is scheduled to be b/w two non-album tracks, 'Things I Don't Understand' and 'Proof'. EMI. 2005.
Customer Review: this is worth it
'Speed of Sound' isn't that stupendous a song. 'Clocks' is way better and I don't think another song could top that from Coldplay. 'Speed of Sound' is pretty much based on the concept of 'Clocks' - something fast, with lots of synths, and a repititive drum loop. This time they used more guitars and tried to make it more melodic, which definitely worked for the masses, but it didn't for me. It's not a terribly bad song, but it just was trying too hard, and it unfortunately didn't work. But listen to 'Things I Don't Understand'. This track is gorgeous. I mean, THIS TRACK IS GORGEOUS!! I had no idea Coldplay would come up with a song like this. It's easily one of my favorite tracks by Coldplay and I don't get why it's not on X&Y. X&Y has too many songs on it that are just mediocre. 'Things I Don't Understand' is honest, crafty and most of all, groundbreaking. For another b-side that is just as good, listen to 'World Turned Upside Down', which you can find on the single for 'Fix You'. Yes, Coldplay is an exceptional B-side band. Oh, I forgot 'Proof'. This song is okay. The guitars here are nice, and the whole idea of the song being sparse instrumentally is a great asset. Chris' singing on this is pretty bad though. I was surprised that he wasn't really putting effort to control his voice from breaking in the song. I hope Coldplay releases a B-side album one day. But this is great for now.
Customer Review: It may not play
I bought the CD, but unfortunately it will not play on my house player - due to the copy protection format being used. BE AWARE - you may not be able to play this cd. IF you play it on your PC, disable autorun first or it will attempt to install copy protection software on your pc.

Flamenco is a popular style of Spanish Guitar Music. Flamenco has its own three forms which are Cante, Baile, and Guitarra. Cante is the song, Baile is the dance, and Guitarra is the guitar part of flamenco. Flamenco is a very important part of Spanish Guitar Music. It usually consists of someone playing the guitar, while people are dancing, and other people also join in with hand clapping. Although it is mostly popular in Spain, flamenco was influenced by other cultures as well.

Flamenco Guitar The Flamenco Guitar is very similar to the classical guitar. That is no surprise however, because flamenco music and classical music are very similar. Both of the instruments are descendants from the lute. The normal flamenco guitar is made out of the Spanish woods cypress and spruce. Even though this guitar is similar to a normal classical guitar, it is also different. For example, the flamenco guitar weighs less and is smaller than a normal classical guitar. These features attribute to giving the flamenco guitar the sharp flamenco sound. Nearly all flamenco guitars come with a golpeador. The golpeador can be compared to a pick guard for classical guitar. They both have the same purpose-to protect the guitar. Because flamenco music has many different guitar playing techniques, it is important to have the golpeador. For example, there are several ways to strum the guitar for flamenco. Strumming is an easy way to scratch the body of the guitar, so a golpeador is needed. Also, besides strumming, the guitar still has many different styles of being played. For example, in flamenco, the musicians often use their hands and fingers and tap the body of their guitar to create sounds to blend in with the flamenco music. The hand and finger taps serve as another reason why a golpeador is needed.

History and Origin of Flamenco Flamenco appeared for the first time in literature in the mid 1770s. During the Golden Age of Spain, flamenco started to get more and more popular. Flamenco started becoming common in the country's music cafes. Also, around that time, the number of music cafes in Spain began to increase. As time progressed, flamenco began to get more and more serious. Other forms of flamenco started to generate, and many of them got deeper in meaning. During the early 1900s, flamenco singing started to get attention. Soon, full flamenco dances were taking place with the guitar, the singing, and the dancing. After 1915, many people started to have shows for flamenco, and musicians would play in front of a crowd at a theatre or another public place.

Popular Flamenco Guitarists Among the popular Flamenco Guitarists include: Juan Serrano, Vicente Amigo, Jesse Cook, Alex Fox, Gerhard Graf-Martinez, Oscar Herrero, Paco Pea, Ronald Radford, and many more.

Flamenco Today Today, flamenco is different than how it started. The dancers are mainly female, and they are showcased more. In the past, flamenco was more artistic, and the music and dance was the main focus. Now, flamenco usually consists of three parts. When there is multiple people dancing and the music is playing, the audience often joins in clapping. Today, the audience is also involved in flamenco.

Customer Review: Close to being brilliant!!
"If you die your son will be like us. Fatherless." From a film-makers point of view, this film is a daunting task. It has many characters but still grasps your attention. There are so many very good foreign language films nowadays. I thought Tsotsi was top notch and now, City of Men. I mean, wow! The characters in the film are young men involved in gangs, carefully woven in their anger and paranoid youth is a sense of dread and being doomed. Excellent drama. This is a must watch for anyone who's remotely interested. There will be a scene where you will laugh really really hard. There's a little kid in the film that you'll want to cuddle. You'll never want to live the character's life though. Also ... it actually made me think about something most men don't ever think of. It's about fatherhood. Before I become incoherent, I'll just end by saying, this film is going to do really well and is a must must watch. Thankyou for reading.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT FOLLOW-UP TELEVISION SERIES IN THE SPIRIT OF CITY OF GOD
This series does not follow the exact story or timeline as the movie City Of God but it takes place in Rio de Janeiro in the Favela. I was entertained and pleased with the acting, cinematography, and realness. I almost felt that I was there and I could have been there in my younger years.

Wow!
